Hayao Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki is a universally recognized film director, animator, manga artist, producer, screenwriter and the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, a film studio based in Tokyo.

Miyazaki’s father owned a company which manufactured parts of airplanes used by Japan during the Second World War. The theme of flight is very present in Miyazaki’s works, and also the theme of war, peace and power.

Some of his works are: Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso.
